Team Bio:

For many students, this project has provided their first experience of engineering, motorsport and hands-on technical work, turning classroom knowledge into real-world application. Today’s race is the culmination of months of dedication, problem-solving and teamwork. Whatever happens on track, the Avanti Superstars arrive as more than competitors — they arrive as builders, innovators and future changemakers.

Team Bio:

Set in the heart of the Kent countryside, Benenden School is proud to make its event debut. Bringing together students from Years 9 and 10, the team is supported by a Year 12 leadership group. Working across engineering, media, marketing, and graphics divisions, each led by a sixth former, the girls have developed practical skills and strong cross-year connections. They were especially fortunate to leverage the expertise of Alice (Year 12), who has been rebuilding her own car.

The build came together smoothly despite a few challenges, giving every student valuable hands-on engineering and problem-solving experience. While the car didn’t perform exactly as hoped during testing, the team was thrilled to get it running on track and used the opportunity to fine-tune the setup. An invaluable trip to try out racing karts at Buckmore Park helped select today’s drivers. The team is extremely grateful for the generous support of its sponsors: Buckmore Park, Ashford Fibre, Jarvis Homes, and Steve Hart Racing, whose encouragement has made this first campaign an exciting and inspiring journey for everyone involved.

Team Bio:

This is Cleeve’s School’s first time competing in this event. We have two teams with a mix of year 8-10 students. We’ve met every week to ensure everyone has a clear role and part to play in both teams. Both teams have worked together brilliantly and have loved the opportunity to represent the school whilst also developing their engineering, mechanical and design skills. We’ve loved the whole experience and hope to be back next year.

Team Bio:

The STEM on Track team brings together some of our Year 7 and Year 8 pupils who share an enthusiasm for STEM subjects. The programme has provided an exciting opportunity for students to apply their classroom learning in a practical and highly engaging environment, developing skills in problem-solving, teamwork, communication, and resilience.

Throughout the 2025/26 STEM on Track journey, the team has been ably supported by Sean, a lifelong karting enthusiast and karting team owner who has come in and volunteered his time and expert knowledge to help our pupils embrace every aspect of the challenge, from building their kart to analysing performance data and working collaboratively to overcome technical and logistical challenges. Oillie, a machinist from the Aston Martin F1 team, visited us to tell us what it was really like working with advanced materials and sharing spaces with Fernando Alonso.

We are thankful to Bulgin Components, a leading manufacturer of high-performance modern connectors as our sponsor for the team. We are proud of the commitment, enthusiasm, and determination shown by our team and look forward to celebrating their achievements alongside schools from across the country.

Durham Academy

STEMOnTrack2026_TestDay_8801.jpg

Team Bio:

Hailing from the small village of Ushaw Moor, Durham Academy is a close-knit secondary school with a massive drive to succeed. Rooted firmly in their core values of confidence, ambition, and respect, our mission throughout the STEM on Track 2025/26 program has been simple: to become recognised across the county for their relentless spirit. Their journey has been a testament to what a dedicated group of students can achieve when given a challenge.

They didn’t just want to participate; they wanted to truly understand the science, engineering, and teamwork required to bridge the gap between the classroom and the race track. STEM on Track has completely transformed their perspective. It taught them to back their ambition with data, to find the confidence to push mechanical boundaries, and to hold total respect for the machine, the track, and their fellow competitors. Durham Academy is here to prove that size doesn’t dictate speed—passion, precision, and relentless determination do. Watch out for the Green Lights; Ushaw Moor is officially on the grid.

Team Bio:

Cottingham High School is based in the East Riding of Yorkshire and is part of the Consortium Academy Trust. Founded in the late 1950’s the school celebrates it’s 70th anniversary this year making our kart number very fitting. Our team is made up of a range of year groups with varied levels of karting experience. We offer the STEM on Track programme as part of our STEM club and the students thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to build and race the Kart at both the test day and National Finals. The club has grown this year following the success of the 2025 season and we hope to inspire more students to get involved next year. The most challenging part of the build this year has been ensuring the kart passes scrutineering by solving some of the issues from last season. Big thank you to our sponsors, the students and their parents for supporting us in our journey to the finals, Mr Baker.

Our road to Wilton Mill all started with a phone call to my colleague at Hastings. Joe told me all about the project, so as a Dutch school we jumped at the opportunity to take part in it. We built our karts at Mulberry academy in Hastings in one week. It was a brilliant experience, one the boys and girls will never forget.
